It was the Vernal Equinox (HIGAN) on Wednesday. This is a special day for Japanese people. Families usually visit their family tombs to pay respects to their ancestors. They also usually clean up, burn incense and sometimes leave sweet rice balls covered with red bean paste ( apparently, ancestral spirits are partial to round food).
I went along with the In-Laws to keep the tradition alive. Afterwards we had a backyard BBQ, and for me the backyard BBQ is close to a religious experience. There is nothing better than sitting outside in the fresh air with a few cold beers close by and some delicious meat. For me, I like to take it slowly. Enjoy the moment by chatting with the people there, relaxing and enjoying .
There couldn’t be a better way to spend the Vernal Equinox.
